Srinagar, Jan 1: Jammu and Kashmir police carried out a raid on Thursday at the residence of a member of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in the Dadsara area of Anantnag district, officials said. The operation, conducted by Awantipora police, was linked to an FIR registered at the Awantipora Police Station.
Authorities stated that the raid aimed to dismantle the support structures of terrorist networks in the region. During the operation, incriminating materials and digital devices were seized, and several individuals were questioned under relevant legal provisions. Police reaffirmed their commitment to strict action against terrorism and maintaining law and order in the district.

JeI, a religious-political organisation, has been banned by the government due to its involvement in terrorist activities. Syed Yusuf Shah, a senior JeI leader, later became the supreme commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen under the alias 'Syed Salahuddin'. Based in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, he has been named in numerous FIRs for attacks on security forces, pro-India politicians, police personnel, and civilians.
Another prominent figure, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, led the hardline faction of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and later formed the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat party. Known for his separatist ideology, Geelani advocated the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.
JeI also operated several schools in the Valley, which were de-recognised by authorities following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
This latest raid reflects the ongoing efforts of Jammu and Kashmir police to curb terrorist networks and enforce legal action against banned organisations.
