Morena, Dec 28: A tragic incident unfolded late Saturday night in Sanjay Nagar locality of Porsa town, Morena district, where a seven-year-old boy lost his life after a firearm accidentally went off while children were playing inside a house.
The deceased has been identified as Rishabh Tomar, son of Dharamraj Singh Tomar. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when Rishabh was playing on the second floor of a rented residence along with the landlord’s two children.
Police officials said that during the course of play, the landlord’s 14-year-old son reportedly picked up his father’s licensed .315 bore rifle, which had been kept inside the room. The firearm discharged unexpectedly, and the bullet struck Rishabh in the head, killing him on the spot.

The sound of the gunshot alerted family members and nearby residents, who rushed to the room and found the child critically injured. Police were informed immediately and reached the spot soon after. Rishabh’s body was sent to the Porsa mortuary for post-mortem examination.
According to police, the rifle belonged to the landlord, who works as a private security guard. He had arrived in Porsa a day earlier and left for his native village, Dharampura, on Saturday morning, leaving the weapon behind. The firearm has been seized, and the landlord was taken into custody for questioning.
Initial findings suggest the incident was an accidental firing that occurred while the children were unsupervised. However, the victim’s family has raised suspicions, alleging that a different weapon may have been involved and claiming that the landlord fled with the original firearm.
Police authorities stated that all angles are being investigated, including the allegations made by the family, and that conclusions will be drawn only after forensic reports and witness statements are reviewed.
The incident has left both families devastated and cast a shadow of sorrow over the neighbourhood. Officials have once again stressed the importance of safely storing firearms, particularly in households with children.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
