Veracruz, Dec 26: At least 10 people were killed and 32 others injured after a bus met with a fatal accident in eastern Mexico’s Veracruz state, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The accident occurred on Christmas Eve in the town of Zontecomatlan, while the bus was travelling from Mexico City to the village of Chicontepec, officials said.

According to a statement issued by the Zontecomatlan mayor’s office, the deceased include nine adults and one child.

“At this stage, we have confirmed nine adults and one child dead,” the statement said.

The municipal authorities also released a list of 32 injured passengers, along with details of the hospitals where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Fatal road accidents involving buses and trucks are frequent in Mexico, often attributed to overspeeding, poor road conditions, or mechanical failure.

In a similar incident reported in late November, at least 10 people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus crashed in the western state of Michoacan.
