Kerala Government to Give Job to Widow of Killed Fisherman

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 (IANS): Dora, the widow of fisherman Gelastine who was killed by Italian securitymen last week, will be given a government job, the Kerala cabinet decided Wednesday.

Indian fishermen Gelastine, 45, and Ajesh Binki, 25, were allegedly mistaken for pirates and shot dead Feb 15 by Italian marines aboard an Italian cargo vessel, off Alappuzha.

While Gelastine hails from Kerala, Binki is from Tamil Nadu.

Dora, who hails from Kollam, will be given a job in the state fisheries department as a Class-four employee, K. Babu, an official in the state fisheries minister's office, told IANS.

Gelastine's family Tuesday filed an 'admiralty suit' at the Kerala High Court seeking Rs.1 crore compensation and detention of the ship till the sum is paid.
