Uttar Pradesh, Dec 20: Panic gripped Buddha Inter College in Babuyan village under Bishnupur police station limits on Saturday afternoon after an armed group allegedly barged into the campus and attacked students and teachers, leaving at least 12 people injured, including the college principal and a woman.

The incident occurred around 2.30 pm while classes were in progress. Police said the assailants, reportedly armed with sticks and sharp-edged weapons, entered the school premises following a heated altercation and began assaulting people inside classrooms, triggering chaos and fear among students and staff.

Kotwali SHO Harshwardhan Singh said the violence was allegedly the fallout of an old rivalry between the school manager, Chhote Lal Kushwaha, and Mohan Prasad, both residents of the same village. “The clash appears to be the result of longstanding enmity between two groups. Complaints have been received from both sides and a detailed investigation is underway. The situation is presently under control,” he said.

Police confirmed that four accused have been detained for questioning. Among the injured are four students, three of whom are said to be in critical condition and have been referred to the district hospital. The remaining injured persons are undergoing treatment at a nearby community health centre. Some members of the attacking group also reportedly sustained injuries during the violence.

Security has been tightened in and around the school premises, with police cordoning off the area. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the attack. Authorities have assured that necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
