Udupi, Dec 12: The Udupi sub-division–level International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated at the SRP Centre, a part of the inclusive education programme, in collaboration with the office of the block education officer and the Block Resource Centre, Udupi.
Presiding over the programme, Dr Yellamma, block education officer, highlighted the importance of empowering persons with disabilities by promoting self-reliance and well-being. She emphasized bringing them into the mainstream of educational, social, economic, cultural, and political spheres, ensuring equal opportunities and celebrating their achievements globally. She also created awareness about the core purpose and significance of observing this special day.



During the programme, four specially-abled students who were selected for the state-level sports meet were honoured. Various competitions were organized for children with disabilities and their parents, and prizes were distributed to all participants. Breakfast and lunch arrangements were also made, ensuring a well-organized event.
The programme was made even more impactful with the valuable support and cooperation of the block education officer, block coordinator, the One Good Step team, Rotary Club Ambalpady, Gange shanbhag, and Chandrika, whose contributions played a key role in its success.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Dr Yellamma, Rajesh Karkera, Rotary Club Ambalpady; Gange Shanbhag; Nagaraj; Jayashila B Rote; and BIERT members Asha, Geetha S Hegde, and physiotherapist Deekshith.
