Chennai, Dec 11: The much-awaited release of director A.R. Jeeva’s drama Lockdown, led by actress Anupama Parameswaran, has been delayed once more, with Lyca Productions announcing on Thursday that the film will not arrive in theatres as planned. In a statement posted on X, the production house expressed regret over the postponement, assuring audiences, distributors, theatre partners, and media that a new release date would be announced soon. They emphasised their commitment to ensuring the film reaches viewers under the best circumstances and thanked everyone for their patience and support.

This marks the second postponement in just two weeks. Originally set to release on December 5, the film was first delayed due to heavy rains and severe weather across Tamil Nadu triggered by the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah. At the time, Lyca Productions stressed that safety came first and postponed the release until the situation improved. Once conditions normalised, the team rescheduled the release for December 12, only to defer it again now citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

Already granted a U/A certificate by the Censor Board, Lockdown has generated strong anticipation as a woman-centric film inspired by a real incident. The trailer reveals a tense narrative built around Anitha — played by Anupama Parameswaran — a young woman facing distressing personal challenges that she is unable to discuss with her family. Her fears intensify when the sudden 21-day COVID-19 lockdown forces her to stay home. Scenes of unwanted advances, frantic attempts to contact a doctor in isolation, and desperate calls to friends for money hint at a deeper crisis that worries her parents. The teaser ends with an emotional moment as Anitha apologises to her father.

Produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, the film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Charlie, Nirosha, Priya Venkat, Livingston, Indhumathi, Rajkumar, Shamji, Lollu Sabha Maran, Vinayak Raj, Vidhu, Abhirami, Ravathi, Sanjivie, Priya Ganesh, and Asha. The technical team includes composers NR Raghunanthan and Siddharth Vipin, cinematographer K.A. Sakthivel, editor V.J. Sabu Joseph, and art director A. Jayakumar. Choreography is by Sherif and Sri Girish, stunts by Om Sivaprakash, and costume design by Meenakshi Shreedharan.

With expectations soaring and the story rooted in real-life emotional turmoil, fans now await the announcement of the film’s new release date.
