Bengaluru, Dec 11: Senior IPS officer Alok Kumar has been promoted from ADGP to DGP following the quashing of a departmental inquiry ordered against him by the state government in connection with the 2019 phone-tapping case by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The state government has posted Alok Kumar as the DGP of the prison department, while B. Dayanand, who was serving as ADGP of the prison department, has been transferred to the Police Training School as ADGP.

Earlier, the state government had ordered a departmental inquiry against Alok Kumar and several other officers over the phone-tapping scandal when Kumar was serving as the commissioner of police, Bengaluru. The CBI had submitted a B Report regarding the investigation. In May 2025, the state government had directed the departmental inquiry, which Kumar contested.
After an eight-month legal battle, Alok Kumar has secured a victory, leading to his promotion to DGP.
