Telangana plans ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ in Hyderabad, BJP slams move

Hyderabad, Dec 8: The Telangana government has stirred a political debate by proposing to name a prominent road near the United States Consulate General in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Avenue’. The announcement drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which accused the Congress-led state administration of renaming places after “whoever trends.”

In addition, the government plans to name the upcoming greenfield radial road at the proposed RRR project after late industrialist Ratan Tata, according to PTI reports. Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had suggested naming key roads in Hyderabad after global corporations, including Google Street near the tech giant’s upcoming Financial District campus, expected to be its largest office outside the United States. Other proposed dedications may include Microsoft Road and Wipro Junction.

Reacting to the developments, Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticised the move, suggesting instead that Hyderabad should be renamed Bhagyanagar. “If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning,” he said, adding that renaming roads after trending personalities is a “sad state of affairs.”

Meanwhile, ahead of the Telangana Global Rising Summit 2047, authorities issued a traffic advisory for December 8 and 9. Heavy congestion is expected near ORR Exit 15 at Pedda Golconda, with VVIP convoys likely to slow traffic and restrict road access. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes, plan their journeys in advance, and follow police instructions to minimise disruption.

Signboards will be placed at key points and police personnel deployed to regulate vehicle flow during the summit.
