New Delhi, Dec 3: Vote-counting for the bypolls in 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was completed on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the biggest winner with seven seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured three, while Indian National Congress and All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) each won one seat.

From the BJP, victories came in wards including Dwarka, Vinod Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Greater Kailash, Dhichaon Kalan, Shalimar Bagh and Chandni Chowk, through candidates Manisha Devi, Sarla Chaudhari, Veena Asija, Anjum Mandal, Rekha Rani, Anita Jain and Suman Kumar Gupta respectively. AAP’s wins were recorded in Naraina, Mundka and Dakshin Puri, while Congress won Sangam Vihar and AIFB clinched Chandni Mahal.

Voting had taken place on November 30, in wards that were previously held by BJP (nine wards) and AAP (three wards). The voter turnout for the bypoll was 38.51 per cent — significantly lower than the 50.47 per cent seen in the 2022 MCD elections for all 250 wards.

The counting process was organised across ten centres in the city including Kanjhawala, Dwarka, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali, with strong-room facilities and secure entry-exit protocols in place.
