“Affordability” called a ‘democrat scam’ by Trump in Final 2025 cabinet meeting

Washington, Dec 3: At the ninth and final Cabinet meeting of 2025, Donald Trump took aim at the Democratic Party’s repeated emphasis on “affordability,” calling the term a “con job” and “scam” meant to mislead voters.

Trump insisted his administration had reversed what he described as “the worst inflation in history” inherited from the previous government pointing to lower gas, energy and grocery prices as proof that real economic relief was underway. He claimed that under his watch, inflation was “stopped in its tracks” and prices were coming down.

At the meeting, Vice-President JD Vance backed Trump’s remarks, arguing Republicans were “fixing what [the Democrats] broke.” He asserted that under the previous administration, American families lost thousands of dollars of income a loss they are now recovering under the current government.

However, economic analysts and critics point out that many Americans continue to feel the pinch of rising costs, especially on essentials like housing, healthcare, and food. The Biden-era surge in inflation, supply-chain pressures and the impact of trade policies have left long-term effects meaning that for many households, the sense of “affordability” remains elusive.

Trump’s remarks come in the aftermath of nationwide elections where “cost of living” and “affordability” were dominant themes in several campaigns an indication that many voters still regard economic stress as a defining issue.

As the Biden years fade into memory and America heads into another cycle of economic uncertainty, the debate over what “affordability” really means and who best addresses it is far from over.
