Two killed as fire guts shelter home in Vasant Vihar

New Delhi, Dec 2: Two people died after a massive fire broke out at a shelter home in the Coolie Camp area near Vasant Vihar Metro station on Monday afternoon.

According to fire officials, a call was received around 3.30 pm, following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The blaze was brought under control by 4 pm. Around 4.20 pm, officials confirmed two casualties after charred male bodies were recovered from the site. Cooling operations were underway till evening.

Police said they also received a PCR call about the incident around the same time and rushed to the location. The shelter home was being operated by an NGO. Fire brigade staff reached promptly and contained the blaze.

There were seven residents inside the shelter home at the time. While five were rescued safely, two men—Arjun, a native of Sambal in Uttar Pradesh who worked as a hotel sweeper, and another man identified as Vikas—tragically lost their lives.

A case has been registered at Vasant Vihar police station, and further investigation is in progress to ascertain the cause of the fire.
