Kanpur, Dec 2: A 17-year-old student who had topped his district in the 2023 Class 10 board examinations was found dead near the Juhi railway yard on Monday, just hours before he was to appear for his Class 12 physics pre-board exam.
The deceased, identified as Raunak Pathak, a resident of Saket Nagar and a student of Brij Kishori Devi Memorial Inter College, had scored an impressive 97.4 per cent in his Class 10 board exams, earning him a full fee waiver at his coaching institute. His sudden death has left the neighbourhood in deep shock.

According to police, Raunak left home around 6:30 am on Monday. When he did not return and his phone went unanswered, his father Alok Pathak and sister Mini began searching for him. A few hours later, his motorcycle was spotted near the Juhi railway yard. Soon after, his body was found lying beside the tracks.
“I never imagined my only son would take such an extreme step. He was so bright,” Raunak’s heartbroken father said.
Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Om Narayan Singh said the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation is underway. “The reason behind the suicide is still unclear. We are examining his mobile phone and speaking to his friends,” he said.
Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
