Alapuzha, Dec 1: A 30-year-old lawyer allegedly hacked his father to death and left his mother grievously injured at their home in Kalarickal under Kanakakunnu police station limits on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm, police said on Monday.

The victim, Natarajan (62), succumbed to severe injuries, while his wife Sindhu is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, where her condition remains critical. Police have taken their son, Advocate Navajith, into custody for the brutal attack, reportedly carried out using a sharp-edged weapon.

According to officers, the accused appeared incoherent during questioning and gave unrelated responses, leading to suspicion that he may have been using drugs. Investigators also believe that family disputes may have contributed to the violent outburst. Police added that Navajith’s wife is pregnant and nearing delivery.

The family is financially well-off, with the couple’s two other children working as doctors. Natarajan’s body has been shifted to the Government Medical College for post-mortem. Police have begun a detailed investigation into the case.
