New Delhi, Nov 30: The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced a seven-day extension to the ongoing three-stage Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and union territories.
Under the previous timeline, the enumeration process—including the collection and digitisation of voter enumeration forms—was slated to conclude on December 4. This deadline has now been pushed to December 11. The rationalisation and reorganisation of polling stations will also be completed by the same date.
The publication of the draft electoral roll, earlier scheduled for December 9, has been deferred to December 16. Following this, the window for filing claims and objections will run from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

The notice phase—covering the issuance, verification, hearings, and decisions on enumeration forms and objections by electoral registration officers—will take place from December 16, 2025, to February 7, 2026. The Commission has now set February 10, 2026, as the date for completing the health check of electoral rolls and securing permission for the final publication.
The final electoral roll will be released on February 14, a week later than the previously scheduled February 7 date.
Opposition parties have repeatedly criticised the Commission, alleging that the SIR process was being rushed under pressure from the BJP. The Trinamool Congress has been particularly vocal on this front. While official reactions are still awaited, a senior party member from West Bengal, speaking anonymously, dismissed the extension as superficial. “Any formal comment will come from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or our general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee,” he said.
