Mangaluru, Nov 30: The Ballok Jesu Kutam, a dedicated group of volunteers serving at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte–Mangaluru, celebrated their 11th anniversary with devotion and gratitude on Sunday, November 30.
The celebration began with a solemn Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr Melvin D’Cunha, OCD, superior of St Joseph’s Monastery. During the Mass, the community welcomed its newest member, Flora D’Souza, in a brief religious ceremony. She was ceremoniously vested with the Kutam sash, symbolising her commitment to the ministry of service at the Shrine.

Fr Stifan Perera, OCD, director of the Shrine, preached an inspiring homily, highlighting the spiritual significance of Advent as the beginning of the new liturgical year. Reflecting on the Gospel, he invited the faithful to embrace Jesus’ call to “be watchful, be vigilant, and wake from spiritual sleep.” He emphasised that Advent challenges every believer to renew their faith with attentiveness and inner readiness.
Also present for the celebration was Fr Deep Fernandes, OCD, adding warmth and support to the occasion.
Following the Mass, Fr Stifan expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ballok Jesu Kutam members for their selfless and dedicated service, offered despite personal commitments to parish, family, and society. He noted that their ministry significantly contributes to maintaining order, reverence, and hospitality for thousands of pilgrims who visit the Shrine.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship breakfast, strengthening unity and gratitude among the members as they stepped into another year of committed service to the Infant Jesus Shrine.
