Hyderabad police bound over 86 gangsters to curb violence

Hyderabad, Nov 30: In a significant preventive move, the Hyderabad Police have "bound over" 86 people from 10 rival gangs to avert criminal activity and ensure public safety. The action was taken under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, a provision empowering authorities to intervene before crimes occur, similar to the former Section 107 of the CrPC.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, acting as Additional District Magistrate (Executive), conducted a special court at the Police Commissionerate. The proceedings targeted notorious rowdy-sheeters, criminals, and members of rival groups, including affiliates of Deendar Anjuman in Asifnagar, across South, Southeast, and Southwest zones.

The 86 accused were directed to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year, with each executing a security bond as a legal pledge of future conduct. Reports presented in court highlighted a history of violent clashes, including murder and attempted murder, confirming an ongoing pattern of retaliatory violence between these gangs.

The security bond acts as a strict deterrent. Any breach of peace during the bond period will result in forfeiture of the bond and immediate legal action under relevant sections of the law. Police said the preventive measure underscores their commitment to curbing gang-related violence and maintaining law and order in the city.
