Mangaluru, Nov 28: Milagres College, in collaboration with Maand Sobhann, organised a one-day Ghumat training programme titled 'Ghumat Ginyan' on November 27, in the college auditorium to promote Konkani cultural heritage among the youth and revive the traditional Ghumat art form.

The programme was presided over by principal of the college, Dr Alwin Serrao, who warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of preserving Konkani folk traditions. The event was also graced by Louis Pinto, president of Maand Soban, and Kishore Fernandes, member of Maand Sobhann.

The programme was inaugurated in a unique and culturally rich manner with the rhythmic beats of the Ghumat, symbolising the beginning of an immersive learning experience.

The training sessions were conducted by skilled Ghumat trainers Joel Pereira, Jasmine Lobo, Nicole Moras, and Delton Lobo, along with Austin D’Souza, secretary of the Konkani Sangh.

In his address, Louis Pinto inspired the young participants to cherish and carry forward the legacy of this traditional art form, emphasising its cultural value and identity.

The day-long training equipped students with hands-on knowledge of Ghumat playing techniques. The programme concluded with an impressive Ghumat performance by the participants, followed by the distribution of certificates.

The programme was compered by Joslin Walder, a student of the college while Tressy Pinto, coordinator of the Konkani Sangh, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Maand Sobhann, the trainers, faculty members, and the enthusiastic students for making the event a success.

A total of 40 students actively took part in the training, making the programme a meaningful step towards preserving and celebrating Konkani cultural heritage.
