Mumbai, Nov 22: Amid circulating pregnancy speculations, Sonakshi Sinha has set the record straight with her signature wit. In October, she shared an Instagram post joking, “World record holder for longest pregnancy in human history (sic).” At Ramesh Taurani’s Diwali bash, her husband Zaheer Iqbal playfully posed with his hand on her midriff, teasing the rumours before laughing it off.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Sonakshi said, “I didn’t take any jab. The media only keep taking jabs at me. They keep thinking that I’m pregnant! When I’m pregnant, I’ll be the first one to tell the world, guys, abb main pregnant hoon, chup ho jaao (laughs).” Sonakshi and Zaheer had tied the knot in June 2024 after seven years of dating. She adds that marriage has not changed her career trajectory.

Bollywood often sidelines married actresses, but Sonakshi is appreciative that she continues to work with the same zeal. “Marriage doesn’t bring a halt to any profession. Women before us walked so that we could run,” she said, emphasising that marriage is simply a part of life and should not hinder one’s work.
On ageism in the industry, Sonakshi notes, “This obsession with youth exists to some extent, but people are moving beyond it. Beautiful roles are being written for women of all ages,” citing Jaya Bachchan’s return in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and upcoming Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling. She adds, “We now see rank newcomers debuting alongside veterans like Jaya ji and Shabana ji. Women of every age are finding their niche and excelling.”
She also praised the slow but steady increase in women-led film projects. “I recently worked with Prerna Arora on Jatadhara. She’s rare, with deep conviction and courage in production. I hope more producers take similar risks,” Sonakshi remarked, highlighting the growing opportunities for women in Bollywood.
