Mangaluru, Nov 20: A new Konkani devotional video hymn, “Mariye Salkka Jezu Balka,” was released on Thursday, November 20 at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangaluru. The ceremony took place in the presence of a gathering of faithful and distinguished clergy, including Fr Alwyn Arana, OCD a carmelite priest serving in Italy; Fr Stifan Perera, OCD director of the Shrine; and Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, OCD superior of St Joseph’s Monastery.
The hymn showcases the collaboration of three prominent talents of the Konkani music field. The lyrics and melody are composed by Ivy D’Souza, a renowned singer who has dedicated over 30 years to sharing faith through music. Having sung in more than 300 albums and musical programmes, Ivy is widely honoured as the “Lata Mangeshkar of Konkani Music.” Her heartfelt voice continues to inspire and uplift the Konkani-speaking community.

The music arrangement is crafted by Roshan D’Souza, Angelore, a respected composer known for his rich and soulful contributions to Konkani devotional music. His composition enhances the emotional depth and prayerful tone of Ivy’s hymn.
The video, filmed entirely at the serene Infant Jesus Shrine, beautifully captures the sacred ambience of the location. The choreography is performed by Remona Perera, popularly known as the “Golden Girl.” Remona holds a world record for performing 170 hours of non-stop Bharatanatyam, and her graceful movements add a powerful visual expression to the devotional theme of the hymn.
During the event, the priests congratulated the team for presenting a creation that blends musical artistry with spiritual devotion.
“Mariye Salkka Jezu Balka” stands as a tribute to Mother Mary and the Infant Jesus - a harmonious offering of faith, music, and dance that enriches the cultural and devotional heritage of the Konkani community.
