Chandigarh, Nov 20: In a major development on Wednesday, a special deportation flight from the United States carrying 200 Indians — including three fugitives wanted in Punjab and 197 undocumented migrants — touched down at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Among those onboard was Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother and key aide of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Anmol, who has been on the radar of multiple investigating agencies, is wanted in several high-profile criminal cases, including the sensational murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, the killing of Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique in October 2024, and the firing incident outside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024.

The moment the aircraft landed, officers of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) moved in and detained Anmol. He was immediately produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court, which remanded him to 11 days of NIA custody.

“We are trying to find how he fled India,” Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi said, adding that Bishnoi will be produced before the court again on November 29 once his NIA custody ends.
Hailing from Fazilka in Punjab, Anmol served as the principal overseas handler of the Bishnoi gang. He allegedly coordinated extortion rackets, issued threats, and managed criminal operations abroad through encrypted communication channels.

Investigators believe that Anmol slipped out of India in April 2022 using a forged passport. He reportedly travelled with another wanted gangster, Sachin Thapan.

According to sources, Anmol managed to procure the fake passport under the name Bhanu Pratap, claiming to be a resident of Faridabad, with his father’s name recorded as Rakesh.
The NIA is now probing the wider network that helped him escape India and continue operations from overseas, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on transnational organized crime.
