Sukma, Nov 18: A Naxalite was shot dead during an encounter with security forces on Tuesday morning in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. The gunfight erupted on a forested hill under Errabor police station limits after a joint team launched an anti-Naxal operation based on specific intelligence about Maoist presence in the area, a police official confirmed.
Security personnel recovered the body of one Naxalite from the spot. An intermittent exchange of fire was still underway till reports last came in, and further details were awaited.

The latest encounter comes just two days after three Naxalites were gunned down in the forested hills between Bhejji and Chintagufa police station areas of Sukma.
With Tuesday’s action, the total number of Naxalites killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh this year has risen to 263. Of these, 234 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts such as Sukma. Another 27 were killed in Gariaband under the Raipur division, while two were neutralised in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki of the Durg division.
