Sarzora Gram Sabha opposes NH-66 diversion through village

Sarzora, Nov 17: The gram sabha of Sarzora village panchayat on Sunday unanimously opposed any proposal to divert the existing NH-66 from Dandeavaddo–Chinchinim through Sarzora, expressing concern over the severe impact it would have on the village’s rich bio-diversity.

At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Rhyea Fernandes, members warned that routing the highway through Sarzora would damage the environment and create major traffic issues. Speaking to the media later, the sarpanch confirmed that strong objections were raised against shifting the bypass, with villagers insisting that the move would adversely affect the ecological balance of the area.

Members also sought clarity on access to the scenic Sarzora lake, questioning whether the Water Resources Department had responded to the panchayat’s request to allow villagers limited access during specific hours. The sarpanch informed that the WRD had forwarded the matter to higher authorities for further action.
