Bihar verdict fuels BJP’s Bengal ambitions as PM Modi warns of end of jungle raj’ in 2026

New Delhi, Nov 14: Riding high on the NDA’s sweeping victory in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned the party’s celebratory moment into a launchpad for its next big political battle — West Bengal. Addressing a euphoric crowd at the BJP headquarters, the Prime Minister drew a dramatic parallel between the flow of the Ganga river and the BJP’s expanding influence, declaring that the political tide rising in Bihar would soon surge into Bengal.

“The Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal — and so will this wave of trust,” PM Modi said, invoking the metaphor to predict the end of what he termed Mamata Banerjee’s “Jungle Raj”. His remarks, delivered amid thunderous cheers, set the tone for an aggressive BJP push ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls.

The PM hailed the NDA’s Bihar mandate — over 190 seats in the 243-member Assembly — as a victory powered by women and youth, asserting that the electorate rejected “lies, division and appeasement”. He credited schemes on women’s safety, free rations and employment as key drivers of female voter turnout, which crossed 67 per cent.

“The people of Bihar chose governance over chaos. This storm of hope will now reach Bengal,” he said, sharpening his attack on the Trinamool Congress, which faces criticism over law-and-order issues and alleged syndicate networks.

Political observers note that the BJP is likely to replicate Bihar’s social coalition template — uniting EBCs, Paswans and other caste blocs — to woo Bengal’s influential groups, including Matuas and Rajbanshis.

Before PM Modi’s address, BJP chief JP Nadda echoed similar sentiments, proclaiming that Bihar had delivered a decisive “no-entry” verdict against jungle raj.

After more than 12 hours of counting, the NDA crossed the majority mark convincingly. The BJP alone secured 76 seats and was leading on 14 more, while the JD(U) won 60 seats. The LJP-RV bagged 14. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan appeared routed — the RJD held leads in 26 seats, and Congress managed just five.

The election also debunked the claims of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which projected itself as a fresh political alternative but failed to gain traction.

With Nitish Kumar poised for another term in Patna, the Bihar victory has not only stabilised the NDA’s regional foothold but also reinvigorated the BJP’s national narrative. As Modi’s speech made clear, the party sees Bihar not as the culmination of a campaign, but as the beginning of a larger electoral offensive — and West Bengal now stands squarely in its crosshairs.
