New York, Nov 14: Amazon has initiated another round of layoffs, cutting 660 corporate jobs across nine of its New York City offices, according to a filing on the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) dashboard. This comes months after the tech giant announced its largest post-pandemic downsizing, eliminating around 14,000 corporate positions globally.
The latest layoffs, effective November 8, impacted employees across multiple Manhattan locations, including offices on 7th Avenue, 10th Avenue, and 34th Street. The disclosures were made in compliance with New York labor laws that mandate advance notification for mass job cuts.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the development to USA Today, stating that the job cuts are part of the company’s ongoing restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and aligning teams with long-term business goals. While Amazon did not reveal which departments were affected, industry watchers believe corporate roles may have taken the hit.
Meanwhile, CEO Andy Jassy recently addressed the wave of job cuts, stressing that the layoffs are neither cost-driven nor influenced by artificial intelligence, contrary to speculation. Speaking during the company’s quarterly earnings call, Jassy said the move is rooted in Amazon’s internal culture.
“The announcement… was not really financially driven, and it's not even really AI-driven,” he said. “It’s culture.”
Explaining further, Jassy said Amazon’s rapid expansion in recent years resulted in more employees, more layers, and more locations than necessary. “Sometimes, without realizing it, you can weaken the ownership of the people… doing the actual work,” he remarked.
The company is expected to continue restructuring as it realigns its operations to enhance performance and maintain competitiveness in changing market conditions.
