Ufa, Nov 7: In a tragic development, the body of a 22-year-old Indian student, who had been missing for 19 days in Russia’s Ufa city, was recovered from a nearby dam on Thursday.
The student, identified as Ajit Singh Chaudhary, hailed from Kaphanwada village in Lakshmangarh, Alwar district of Rajasthan, and was pursuing his MBBS at Bashkir State Medical University, where he had enrolled in 2023.

According to sources, Chaudhary left his university hostel around 11 am on October 19, telling friends he was stepping out to buy milk, but never returned. His clothes, mobile phone, and shoes were reportedly found near the White River soon after his disappearance.
On Thursday, Alwar Saras Dairy Chairman Nitin Sangwan confirmed that Chaudhary’s body was found in a dam adjacent to the White River. The Indian Embassy in Russia has informed his family of the discovery, though it has not yet released an official statement.
Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh Alwar expressed shock and demanded a thorough probe into the incident. “Ajit, from Kaphanwada village, was sent to Russia by his family with great hopes, pooling their hard-earned money. The news of his body being found in the river is utterly heartbreaking. It appears an untoward incident occurred under suspicious circumstances,” he said in a post on X.
He further appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure that Chaudhary’s body is brought back to India without delay and that the matter is investigated seriously.
The All India Medical Students’ Association (Foreign Medical Students Wing) also wrote to the External Affairs Minister seeking assistance. “His friends at the university have confirmed the identification of the body,” the association stated.
As of now, Bashkir State Medical University has not issued any official statement regarding the student’s death.
The tragic incident has left the student community in shock, with many calling for greater safety measures and transparency in investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding Chaudhary’s death.
