San Francisco, Nov 4: Artificial intelligence leader OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expand its computing capabilities and scale its advanced AI workloads.

Under the seven-year agreement, valued at $38 billion, OpenAI will leverage AWS’s powerful Amazon EC2 UltraServers, equipped with hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and scalable to tens of millions of CPUs. The partnership takes effect immediately.

According to the official announcement, the collaboration will enable OpenAI to “rapidly expand compute capacity while benefiting from the price, performance, scale, and security of AWS.”

The release further highlighted AWS’s extensive experience in running large-scale AI infrastructure, with clusters exceeding 500,000 chips, and praised the company’s record for secure and reliable cloud performance.

“AWS's leadership in cloud infrastructure combined with OpenAI's pioneering advancements in generative AI will help millions of users continue to get value from ChatGPT,” the statement said.

All AWS capacity under the deal will be deployed before the end of 2026, with provisions to expand beyond 2027. The system’s architecture will integrate Nvidia GB200 and GB300 GPUs across high-speed interconnected networks to ensure low-latency and optimal performance for OpenAI’s generative AI workloads.

The partnership marks one of the largest infrastructure commitments in the AI industry to date, strengthening OpenAI’s ability to serve its rapidly growing global user base.
