HYDGEN unveils first indigenously-built electrolyser for lab-grown diamond sector at Sahyadri campus

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 3: HYDGEN proudly announces the shipment of its pioneering electrolyser engineered in house for specific use in the lab-grown diamond sector, marking a major milestone in the company’s mission to advance sustainable hydrogen production technology.

Cap Brijesh Chowta, member of parliament, Lok Sabha from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency was unveiled the first HYDGEN electrolyser unit manufactured at local HDGEN facility at Sahyadri campus, Mangaluru. Dr Manipaddy Krishna Kumar (COO), Ramyasri Doddamani Srivastava (director), Dr SS Injaganeri, principal Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (Autonomous) Mangaluru, members of industries and the hydrogen innovation community where present in the programme.

The achievement underscores HYDGEN’s strong commitment to innovation, indigenisation, and the clean energy transition. Designed, engineered, and assembled entirely at HYDGEN’s in-house facility, the electrolyser represents a crucial step toward scalable, efficient, and reliable green hydrogen solutions tailored for industrial and mobility applications.

“This achievement highlights the capability and dedication of our engineering and R&D teams,” said Dr Manipaddy Krishna Kumar, COO & co-founder. "Delivering our first in-house electrolyser to a client validates our technology and strengthens our position in India’s growing green hydrogen ecosystem.”

The HYDGEN DIA-S 5 kW PEM Electrolyser features a hydrogen generation capacity of 1 Nm³/h, achieving 99.9995% purity at a back pressure of 10 bar. The system is specifically engineered to support Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) applications in lab-grown diamond production, where hydrogen acts as a reducing agent to remove non-diamond carbon (graphite) from the growth surface and sustain the plasma environment necessary for diamond formation.

This success was made possible through the leadership and technical direction of HYDGEN’s management team — Michael Gryseels (executive chairman), Dr Manipaddy Krishna Kumar (COO), Dr Goutham Dalapati (CTO), and Ramyasri Doddamani Srivastava (director) whose strategic vision and guidance have been instrumental in driving the company’s mission to deliver innovative, high-performance, and indigenously built hydrogen systems.

Looking ahead, HYDGEN is focused on scaling up electrolyser capacities, with parallel developments in stack size enhancement, system modularity, and efficiency optimization. The company plans to expand its product portfolio to meet larger industrial requirements and accelerate the deployment of commercial-scale green hydrogen systems across multiple sectors.

This first shipment marks the beginning of HYDGEN’s commercial deployment phase, reinforcing its vision to support the nation’s decarbonisation and energy self-reliance goals through indigenous hydrogen technology.
