70th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrated with pride and cultural splendor at St Aloysius PU College

Mangaluru, Nov 1: Kannada Rajyotsava, celebrated on November 1, commemorates the historic unification of all Kannada-speaking regions into the state of Karnataka in 1956. This day holds immense significance as it celebrates the rich heritage, language, culture, and identity of Karnataka. It is a tribute to the spirit of unity, pride, and contribution of the people of Karnataka towards the progress of the state and the nation.

The 70th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great enthusiasm at St Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. The programme commenced with a soulful rendition of the State Anthem by the students, invoking a sense of pride and patriotism.

Janet Pinto, head of the department of Kannada, delivered the welcome address, setting a warm and dignified tone for the celebration. The red and yellow colours in the flag of Karnataka reflect the state's proud spirit, red symbolising courage and pride, and yellow representing peace, prosperity and the generous heart of its people. The flag was hoisted by the chief guest, Shashiraj Rao Kavoor, lawyer and composer.

The chief guest, in his address, remarked that the PUC years are a memorable and formative phase of life, where students should value both academics and culture. He stressed that cultural activities are vital for inner happiness and holistic development, as they help discover and nurture one’s hidden talents and artistic skills. He further encouraged students to maintain a healthy balance between curricular and co-curricular activities to achieve all-round growth. He also praised the organisers for flawlessly and gracefully conducting the celebration.

A moment of pride was the felicitation of Akshatha Kudla, lecturer, department of Kannada for her remarkable achievements in the field of art. She was also honored for her role as ‘Nochi’ in the film Kantara - chapter 1.

On the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava, various competitions were organised for students and staff, and the winners were honored. A vibrant cultural programme was presented showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of Karnataka.

The event was graced by the principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, campus minister Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, vice principals Muralikrishna GM and Vilma Fernandes, deans Kiran Shettey and Inas Dais.

Rashith Kutina, the secretary of Kannada Association, delivered the vote of thanks and the programme was efficiently compered by Dhruv J Rao, M Ahmed Shahil, Sahana and Rosline.

The celebration concluded with pride and happiness. It brought students and staff together to celebrate Karnataka’s culture and language.
