Mayil, Oct 28: In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old girl allegedly took her own life after being scolded by her family over studies and household chores, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in Mayil town. According to police, the deceased, identified as Shivangi Yadav, went to her room and locked the door after being reprimanded by her family members. When she did not respond to repeated calls, her family broke open the door and found her hanging from a dupatta.
She was immediately taken to a nearby doctor, where she was declared dead on arrival, officials said.
Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Mayil Station House Officer confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
