Electric bike bursts into flames on Assolda–Curchorem road; rider escapes unhurt

Curchorem, Oct 22: An electric bike caught fire early Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. on the Assolda–Curchorem main road, causing panic among commuters.

According to eyewitnesses, the rider, who was travelling towards Curchorem, noticed smoke emanating from the vehicle before it suddenly went up in flames. The fire is believed to have started from the bike’s dikky (storage compartment). Fortunately, the rider managed to jump off and escaped without injuries.

Quepem Police soon reached the spot and conducted a panchanama. The vehicle was completely gutted in the incident. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, with officials probing the possibility of a technical fault or a battery-related issue.

Authorities have urged electric vehicle users to remain vigilant and report any signs of smoke, overheating, or sparks immediately to avoid similar mishaps.
