Kolkata, Oct 20: A horrifying incident has rocked West Bengal after a four-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her grandfather in the Kadamtala area under Sonarpur Police Station in South 24 Parganas district. The child was found dead with multiple injuries on Sunday evening, prompting police to arrest the grandfather and detain the grandmother and nanny for questioning.
Locals, alarmed by the child’s screams, rushed to the house and discovered a grisly scene — bloodstains across the floors and walls, and the child lying motionless. She was taken to Subhashgram Rural Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Her parents were at work during the time of the incident — the mother at an electrical store in Kolkata and the father at a private hospital.

Initial investigations revealed the child had been left in the care of her grandparents and a nanny. According to a senior police official, the grandfather confessed to the murder, reportedly using a sharp weapon. “He was extremely irritable and had a history of confining the girl indoors. We suspect a mental health disorder may be involved,” the officer stated.
Neighbours described the accused as hostile and reclusive, known to prevent the girl from going outside or interacting with others. The house, they said, often echoed with her muffled cries.
The girl’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Investigators are now probing the possible complicity or negligence of the grandmother and nanny, while the tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for better mental health screening and child
