Kolkata, Oct 20: On the occasion of Diwali and Kali Puja, political leaders in West Bengal extended greetings to the public on Monday, weaving themes of unity, harmony, and spiritual resilience into their messages.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a social media post on Monday morning, wished citizens a joyous Diwali while urging them to uphold communal harmony across the nation.
“Wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali! May the light of diyas and the spirit of this festival bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to all, and inspire unity and harmony in our communities,” she wrote.

True to her style in recent years, Banerjee once again embedded broader socio-political themes in her festive message, reiterating her call for communal unity and social cohesion—a recurring motif in her public statements and tributes to cultural icons.
BJP’s state president and Rajya Sabha MP, Samik Bhattacharya, also took to social media with a spiritually themed message for Kali Puja, reflecting on the emotional and psychological struggles of modern life.
“When life grows weary, the mind overburdened — then it is Ma who is our courage, strength, and refuge. On this auspicious day, in the light of Ma Shyama's compassion, may all inauspiciousness, all darkness, be dispelled,” he said, wishing for peace and awakening in every soul.
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, extended his greetings by seeking divine blessings for strength and perseverance.
“May Maa Kali bless you with the courage to face all the challenges and overcome all the hurdles in your life. Warm wishes to you and your family on the auspicious occasion of Kali Puja,” Adhikari posted.
The convergence of Diwali and Kali Puja this year offered leaders an opportunity not only to convey festive wishes but also to subtly reflect on broader themes of resilience, societal harmony, and spiritual strength in the face of contemporary challenges.
