New Delhi, Oct 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Diwali, wishing that the festival of lights bring harmony, happiness and prosperity to all.

“Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us,” Modi said on social media.

Continuing his decade-long tradition of celebrating Diwali with the armed forces, the Prime Minister is likely to spend the festival this year with Indian Navy personnel onboard INS Vikrant off the Goa coast. According to reports, Modi’s visit will also mark the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s counterstrike to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Ever since taking office in 2014, Modi has celebrated the Festival of Lights with soldiers stationed across the country. In his first year as Prime Minister, he visited the Siachen glacier in Ladakh to spend Diwali with troops guarding the nation’s frontiers. The following year, he celebrated the festival at the Dograi War Memorial in Amritsar, honouring the heroes of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Ahead of the festive season, Modi also called upon citizens to support Indian-made products and celebrate the nation’s entrepreneurial spirit. “Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians,” he said on Sunday.

Encouraging people to go vocal for local, the Prime Minister added, “Let’s buy Indian products and say — Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai.” He also urged citizens to share their Diwali purchases on social media to inspire others to do the same.
