Chandigarh, Oct 16: A tragic accident in Sector 46 claimed the life of 22-year-old Sojef and left her 24-year-old sister, Isha, critically injured on Tuesday afternoon. The sisters, residents of Burail village in Sector 45, were waiting for an auto-rickshaw outside Dev Samaj College around 3 pm when a speeding black Mahindra Thar struck them and fled the scene.

Bystanders rushed the sisters to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. Sojef was declared dead on arrival, while Isha remains under intensive care. Their father, a resident of Uttar Pradesh now settled in Chandigarh, said, “My daughter Sojef was studying BA at Dev Samaj College and learning beauty parlour work. She had big dreams, but everything ended in a moment.”

Sector 34 police confirmed that the Thar bears a Chandigarh registration and is linked to an address in Sector 21, though the current owner no longer resides there. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and verifying vehicle ownership to identify and apprehend the driver.

A case has been registered against an unknown person, and the police are actively investigating. “We are scanning CCTV cameras and verifying the vehicle’s ownership details. The accused will be arrested soon,” said a police official.
