India bans imports of roasted areca nuts below Rs 351 per kg

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 16: The government on Wednesday announced a ban on the import of roasted Areca nuts priced below Rs 351 per kilogram. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification, stated, “The import of roasted Areca nut, having CIF value less than Rs 351 per Kg is prohibited.”

However, the ban does not apply to imports by 100% export-oriented units (EOUs) operating in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or imports made under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.

The move aims to regulate imports and protect domestic producers from underpriced foreign Areca nuts entering the market.
