Patna, Oct 13: With the model code of conduct now in force ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, enforcement agencies have ramped up statewide operations to prevent electoral malpractices. In a major crackdown, illicit items worth a staggering Rs 246.23 crore were seized across Bihar on a single day, according to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.
The seizures include Rs 7.7 lakh in unaccounted cash, liquor valued at Rs 130.64 lakh, narcotic substances worth Rs 68.6 lakh, Rs 20 lakh worth of precious metals, and Rs 39 lakh in freebies and other inducements intended to sway voters.
Since the code of conduct came into effect, enforcement teams have collectively seized Rs 78 lac in cash, liquor worth Rs 12.01 crore, narcotics valued at Rs 4.42 crore, a staggering Rs 278.80 crore in precious metals, and freebies and other materials worth Rs 5.14 crore.

To maintain a free, fair and intimidation-free election environment, a coordinated operation is underway involving the district administration, police, Excise Department, Income Tax authorities, Narcotics Control Bureau, Customs, and the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad.
Law enforcement has taken firm action against potential disruptors, executing over 2.6 lakh preventive bonds and detaining 556 individuals under various laws including the National Security Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Patna has instructed all district authorities to step up surveillance, ensure seamless coordination between agencies, and respond promptly to any election-related complaints.
Meanwhile, the ECI confirmed that no appeals have yet been filed before District Magistrates regarding the inclusion or deletion of names from the electoral rolls under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act during the ongoing special revision across Bihar’s 243 Assembly constituencies.
Officials emphasised that the overarching goal is to ensure voters can cast their ballots freely, without coercion or inducement.
