Kota, Oct 13: A Class 12 student who had been missing for two days was found dead in a hotel room in Kota, Rajasthan, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as 18-year-old Priti Ahedi, was a resident of Kelwada town in Baran district. According to police, she had left home for school on Friday morning but did not return, prompting her family to file a missing person complaint.

On Saturday evening, police discovered her body hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room, about 120 kilometres from her hometown. Hotel staff told police that Priti had checked in around 5 pm on Friday after submitting her Aadhaar card. She neither left the room nor received any visitors during her stay.
Circle Inspector Vinod Kumar of Nayapura Police Station said the hotel’s cleaning staff grew suspicious after repeated knocks on her door went unanswered. The manager then alerted police, who broke open the door and found her hanging with a dupatta. No suicide note was recovered from the scene, Kumar added.
Kelwada SHO Man Singh said CCTV footage showed the girl travelling alone — first getting off an auto near her school, then boarding a bus. However, her family alleged that someone had accompanied her to the hotel, a claim denied by the hotel staff.
Initially, the family refused a post-mortem, alleging foul play, but later agreed on the condition that police register a case of abetment of suicide and ensure a fair probe.
Based on their complaint, police have registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
