Bloating & gas could signal silent heart attack: Experts

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 12: Many people often mistake early signs of heart attacks for digestive issues, says Dr Naveen Bhamri, a cardiologist with 21 years of experience at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi. Symptoms such as bloating, gas, or mild chest heaviness may sometimes indicate a silent heart attack rather than just indigestion.

“People assume gas or bloating is harmless, but these can mimic heart attack symptoms, especially in elderly women or those with long-term high blood pressure,” Dr Bhamri explained on Instagram. He urged individuals with risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease to seek medical attention promptly.

Persistent or recurring digestive discomfort, unusual chest heaviness, or burping should not be ignored, as timely evaluation can prevent serious complications, the cardiologist warned. Regular check-ups and early consultation with a doctor remain key to detecting silent heart issues.
