Raipur, Oct 11: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing anti-Naxal campaign in Chhattisgarh, security forces arrested six Maoist operatives and defused a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) during a joint operation in South Bastar's Dantewada district.

The operation took place near Manganar Road on Friday and was carried out by a combined team from Barsur Police Station, the District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), acting on intelligence about Maoist activity in the area.

Led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumbhakar and Inspector Sanjay Ursa, the team swiftly mobilized and intercepted six individuals attempting to flee the scene. All six were apprehended and, during questioning, admitted to their involvement in Maoist activities.

Among those arrested was Anil alias Kachanu (30), who confessed to a history of serious crimes including planting IEDs, multiple murders, arson, and involvement in a 2019 encounter with police. The others were identified as Jamuna alias Jayamati Mandavi (the only woman in the group), Sannu Ram Kashyap, Manish Kashyap, Hari Ram Kashyap, and Sularam Kashyap.

A live pressure IED weighing 0.5 kg was recovered along with a shovel, saber, and other Maoist-related tools. The accused admitted the explosive device was intended to target patrolling police personnel. The IED was successfully defused on-site by the bomb disposal unit, following all safety protocols.

The coordinated action was carried out under the strategic leadership of Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai and supervision of Additional SPs Udit Pushkar and R.K. Burman. Their ongoing intensified anti-Naxal efforts have resulted in multiple arrests and the prevention of major attacks across the region.

A formal case has been registered at Barsur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act. Authorities reiterated their commitment to eradicating Naxal influence and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
