Recurring mishap at Rajbag shore: Fishing boat capsizes again amid sand accumulation woes

Daijiworld Media Network - Canacona

Canacona, Oct 9: A fishing boat capsized at the Rajbag shore in Canacona while returning from a fishing trip, triggering swift response from locals who rushed to assist. Despite efforts to drag the vessel ashore manually, it eventually had to be recovered with the help of a JCB.

The incident, though without reported casualties, has reignited concerns among the local fishing community. Residents say such accidents have become an almost annual occurrence due to the heavy sand deposits along the shore, which severely hinder safe navigation for fishing vessels.

Former Canacona Municipal chairperson Ratnakar Dhuri has called on the government to take urgent and long-term action to address the recurring issue. He emphasised the need for immediate intervention to protect the livelihoods and lives of local fishermen who face growing risk each season.
