Man murders girlfriend, buries her in courtyard, sleeps over grave in Niwari

Niwari, Oct 7: In a chilling crime, a man allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death, buried her body in the courtyard of his home, and slept on a cot over the freshly covered grave for two days.

The accused, Ratiram Rajput, lured the married woman to his house on October 2 in a village under Orchha police station limits. Police said he was assisted by friends Kalicharan, Mukesh, and Gyan Singh in digging a pit, covering the body with mud and cow dung, and placing a cot above it.

The victim’s family lodged a missing complaint when she did not return home. Ratiram was detained on October 4 and confessed to the crime. Her remains were recovered from the courtyard. Shockingly, the accused escaped custody the next day, leading to the suspension of two policemen for negligence.

Police said the woman had been pressuring Ratiram to marry her, but he was unwilling to continue the relationship, prompting the murder. Family members allege torture including electrocution and blade injuries, demanding his immediate re-arrest and strict punishment.

Authorities have intensified efforts to track down the absconding accused.
