Dhaka, Oct 6: Dengue continues to pose a serious health threat in Bangladesh, with three more deaths reported in the last 24 hours as of Monday morning, pushing the 2025 fatality count to 215. The latest deaths occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation and Khulna Division, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the same period, 782 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, bringing the total number of confirmed cases this year to 50,689. Of the current hospitalised patients, 851 are in Dhaka, while 2,473 are being treated across other parts of the country. Men continue to represent a higher share of the infected, accounting for 60.9% of new cases.

In 2024, Bangladesh recorded 575 dengue-related deaths and over 101,000 infections — making it one of the worst-hit years on record. To manage the growing crisis, the DGHS has issued strict new guidelines for public hospitals. These include the establishment of dedicated dengue wards, the creation of specialist treatment boards, and mandatory ICU support for severe cases.
Hospitals have been directed to ensure NS1 testing, emergency care, and adequate supplies of medicines. Medical staff are under instruction to prioritise dengue patients and provide consistent care both in-patient and through outpatient departments.
Additionally, hospital authorities have been ordered to coordinate with municipal bodies to conduct regular mosquito-control operations in and around hospital premises. Weekly coordination meetings led by hospital directors and civil surgeons are now mandatory to ensure proper implementation of dengue treatment protocols.
With no specific cure for dengue, the World Health Organization emphasizes that early diagnosis and supportive care are key to reducing the risk of severe illness and death.
