New York, Oct 6: A violent shootout between rival groups erupted late Saturday night in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama, leaving two people dead and 12 others injured, in what local authorities are calling a mass shooting.
The gunfire broke out around 11:30 p.m. in the city’s bustling downtown tourist district, shortly after a college football game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College, drawing large crowds to the area.
According to Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys, the shooting stemmed from two groups exchanging fire in the middle of a crowd, with apparent disregard for bystanders.

“This was two parties involved that were basically shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd,” Graboys said at a press briefing. “They did not care who was around them.”
Victim details:
• 2 fatalities (including at least one woman, identities not yet released)
• 12 injured, of which 3 are in critical condition
• 7 of the victims are under the age of 17, with the youngest being just 16 years old
• 2 juveniles are among the critically injured
No arrests have been made as of early Sunday morning, but Graboys emphasized that police are actively gathering evidence and questioning witnesses and potential suspects.
“We will do whatever we need to do... to charge and hold the people responsible,” Graboys stated.
The shooting occurred at a busy intersection where a large crowd had gathered post-game, amplifying the chaos and danger. The Montgomery Police Department confirmed that at least one juvenile is in life-threatening condition.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed condemned the violence and assured the public that no effort would be spared in bringing those responsible to justice.
“We're going to use every resource we have to bring all those involved in this injustice [to justice],” Mayor Reed said.
As the city reels from yet another mass shooting, the incident has reignited concerns over gun violence, particularly its growing impact on young people and public spaces once considered safe. Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
