Vijayanagar, Oct 5: The Kannada literary world plunged into grief on Sunday following the demise of renowned writer and folklorist Prof Moggalli Ganesh. He was 62.
Prof Ganesh, who was serving as the head of the Department of Folklore at Hampi Kannada University, had been battling health complications for the past few days. He breathed his last due to multi-organ failure. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Born on July 1, 1963, in Santemogena Halli of Channapatna taluk, Ganesh spent his childhood in his native village, an experience that deeply influenced his writings. His works often captured the essence of rural life, earning him admiration across the Kannada literary sphere.
Among his most celebrated short stories are “Buguri,” “Nannajjanigondu Ase Idittu,” and “Ondu Hale Chaddi”, which are regarded as some of the finest contributions to modern Kannada literature.
His final rites will be performed at 4 pm on October 5 at his native village near Nidaghatta in Maddur, family sources said.
The passing of Prof. Moggalli Ganesh marks an irreparable loss to Kannada literature, leaving behind a rich legacy of heartfelt storytelling rooted in the traditions and lives of rural Karnataka.
