Ghaziabad, Oct 4: Tragedy struck early Saturday when a speeding Toyota Glanza rammed into a group of morning walkers at the T-point of GT Road near Rakesh Marg, leaving three women dead and a man injured.

The unidentified driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. ACP Upasana Pandey said the car has been seized and efforts are on to trace the driver. Two women were declared dead on arrival, while the third succumbed during treatment.

The deceased — Meenu Prajapati (56), Savitri Devi (62), and Kamlesh Devi (55) — were neighbours from New Kot Gaon. Vipin Sharma (50), from the same locality, sustained minor injuries. Family members said the victims had set out for their morning walk around 5:15 am.

Police said the car halted after crashing into the central verge around 5:30 am. “The car was likely speeding. CCTV footage will help ascertain the cause,” SHO Sachin Kumar said, adding that the airbags had deployed, possibly sparing the driver from serious injury.
