Mangaluru, Oct 3: The Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development (YEN-REFINED), at the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), successfully concluded its two-day national level workshop on “Applied econometric analysis for high-impact research” with a valedictory ceremony held on September 27.
Dr Santosh Kumar P K conducted the workshop sessions on the September 26 and 27, engaging participants with a comprehensive coverage of applied econometric techniques. The sessions spanned key areas such as regression models, time series applications, causality testing, and advanced econometric tools tailored for high-impact social science research. With a strong emphasis on practical demonstrations and real-world applications, he ensured that complex concepts were simplified through clear explanations and step-by-step guidance.















The programme commenced with an invocation led by Ashiq, Research Intern at YEN-REFINED. Babitha Shali Lasrado, JRF, conducted the proceedings as the Master of the Ceremonies. Dr S M Riha Parvin, Assistant Professor, then extended a warm welcome to the gathering, encapsulating the academic depth and practical relevance of the two-day deliberations. The valedictory ceremony was graced by Chief Guest, Prof Rekha P D, Director of Research and Development (R&D), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), and Guest of Honour and Resource Person, Dr Santosh Kumar P K, Director and Associate Professor, Centre for Budget Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala.
The valedictory session featured reflective feedback from participants representing diverse institutions across the country. Deepa, Research Scholar at the Manipal School of Commerce and Economics, MAHE, lauded the hospitality and ranked the workshop among the finest she had attended. Aneesa P V, Research Scholar from the PG & Research Department of Commerce, Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, praised the engaging pedagogy of the resource person. Dr Vijayalakshmi, Faculty at Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, expressed her appreciation for the clarity with which complex econometric concepts were explained through simple and accessible tools. Dr Abhinandan Kulal, Faculty at Government First Grade College, Siddakatte, acknowledged the affordability and academic quality of Yenepoya’s initiatives, while expressing his honour in sharing the sessions with senior academicians.
Prof Rekha P D, Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony, emphasised that knowledge must move beyond the realm of information and evolve into wisdom and application, especially in nurturing the younger generation. She highlighted the pressing need for application-oriented research in the social sciences and stressed that scholarly work must remain both impactful and socially as well as economically relevant.
The Guest of Honour, Dr Santosh Kumar P K, commended the organising team for their meticulous planning and hospitality and extended his best wishes to participants in their future research endeavours. Prof Niyaz Panakaje, in his concluding remarks, reflected on the significant contributions of Prof Arun A Bagwath and Prof Rekha in shaping the growth of the research ecosystem and articulated the institution’s vision to strengthen econometric research through collaborative workshops and initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to the 33 participants by Prof Rekha P D and Dr Santosh Kumar, with Shafeena, JRF at YEN-REFINED, YIASCM, announcing the names. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mural Cutinha, JRF, followed by the National Anthem led by Sabeena Ameer, marking the formal closure of the two-day workshop.
The workshop was coordinated by Team YEN-REFINED, comprising faculty members, JRFs, and research interns. The key takeaways from this workshop are expected to substantially elevate the research proficiency of the participants, enabling them to contribute more effectively to the academic community.
