Raipur, Sep 30: In a chilling incident that has shaken Chhattisgarh, Raipur police recovered the body of a young man from a lodge in the city’s Ganj police station area on Sunday. The gruesome killing was allegedly carried out by his 16-year-old girlfriend, who confessed to the crime after returning to Bilaspur and narrating the incident to her mother.
The accused, a resident of Bilaspur’s Koni police station area, had travelled to Raipur on September 28 to meet her boyfriend, Mohammad Saddam, originally from Bihar and working as an MS Engineering officer in Abhanpur. The couple checked into Avon Lodge in Satkar Gali, Raman Mandir Ward, Raipur, and had been staying there since Saturday.
Police said the relationship had turned sour after Saddam allegedly pressured the minor, who is three months pregnant, to undergo an abortion. Saddam reportedly refused to marry her and had threatened her with a knife during a heated argument outside the lodge days earlier.
On the night of September 28, as Saddam slept in the lodge room, the girl allegedly used the same sharp-edged weapon to slit his throat. She then locked the room from outside, took Saddam’s phone, and fled, later discarding the lodge key on nearby railway tracks.
By the next morning, the teenager returned to Bilaspur and confessed the crime to her mother, who accompanied her to Koni police station. Raipur police recovered Saddam’s body, already soaked in blood, at Avon Lodge. Efforts are underway to contact Saddam’s family in Bihar using his phone.
“This appears to be both a crime of passion and desperation. The investigation will establish whether it was premeditated or a spur-of-the-moment act,” said a senior investigating officer.
Sources revealed that repeated arguments over the pregnancy, refusal to abort, and threats with the same knife escalated the conflict, culminating in the fatal act. The incident has sent shockwaves through Raipur and Bilaspur, exposing the dark underside of a teenage relationship that spiraled from love into betrayal, violence, and death.
