Amritsar, Sep 25: Eight-year-old Abhijot Singh, who had been battling a severe kidney disorder, has passed away. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood took to social media to mourn the young boy, saying, “Will miss you Abhijot. RIP little angel. Don’t worry, will take care of your parents.”
Abhijot suffered from Nephrotic Syndrome and required treatment at PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh every two months, with each visit from his village in Amritsar costing around Rs 45,000. His family’s situation worsened during the recent Punjab floods, which submerged their farm and destroyed crops, leaving them without income. Villagers said floodwaters were so high that even basic supplies could only be accessed by swimming.
NDTV ran a ‘Save Abhijot’ campaign, with Sonu Sood and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann providing financial support. Sood had also met Abhijot and his family in Punjab.
Abhijot’s father, Jasbir Singh, had earlier said both his son’s kidneys were damaged and he needed regular care until age 18. Doctors had expressed hope that, with proper treatment, he could lead a full life—a hope that kept his family optimistic despite the floods.
