Mangaluru, Sep 25: The Postgraduate Department of Studies and Research in Social Work, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) will be organizing one day national seminar titled ‘Climate Literacy and Environmental Governance: Empowering the Next Generation’ on September 29 at L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block Hall, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.
The chief guest for the inaugural programme, Vijay Moras, trustee CFAL & co-lead The AMARA (Prakrutiye Pragati) Initiative, Mangaluru, will inaugurate the seminar. The valedictory programme will be graced by the chief guest, Dr Melwyn S Pinto, SJ, secretary, Karnataka Jesuit Higher Education Commission.


Following are the sessions after inaugural programme:
1. Keynote session: Vijay Moras, trustee CFAL & co-lead The AMARA (Prakrutiye Pragati) Initiative, Mangaluru
2. Technical session I: Role of Urban Biodiversity in Climate Resilience by Dr Smitha Hegde, biologist, principal & director of Research, CFAL.
3. Panel discussion:
• Moderator: Dr A Stephen, assistant professor, St Joseph University, Bengaluru.
• Panellist 1: Dr Haridas V R, expert in Climate Justice & Sustainable Agriculture, Ernakulam
• Panellist 2: Karthik Ponnappa, co-founder & principal at Smarter Dharma, Bengaluru
• Panellist 3: Rishika Pardikar, Climate & Environment Journalist, Bengaluru
Participants of the seminar include students of Social Work and other disciplines, educators and research scholars local, within state and other states of India. The aim is to explore effective climate literacy, environmental governance, promoting informed decision making, advocacy and sustainable practises. Contemporary challenges and practical solutions will be deliberated. Interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange is facilitated, offering participants opportunities to interact with experts, present research papers and engage in meaningful dialogues.
